What you need to know now
When selecting tax representation in Dubai, verify the registered person, permitted tax type and engagement scope.
- Confirm who will act for the taxpayer.
- Agree authority, scope and fees in writing.
- Keep access to the taxpayer’s own account and records.
Define the tax work that needs support
A business searching for a Tax Agent in Dubai may need routine return support, transaction advice or representation in a specific FTA procedure. Describe the actual need before comparing providers. An engagement for periodic filing is not necessarily a full review of past transactions or responsibility for every open issue.
Prepare a short business profile covering the legal entity, activities, systems and known concerns. A property business, service exporter and importer can need different expertise. Ask the proposed adviser how the scope addresses those transactions rather than relying on a general description of tax services.
Check registration and formal appointment
Tax consultant and registered Tax Agent are not automatically the same status. Verify the proposed representative through official FTA information and confirm who will act for the taxpayer. Registered agents are independent professionals, not employees of the FTA or a guarantee of authority acceptance.
Review the appointment and permitted scope through the current process. The person preparing a calculation may differ from the person authorised to submit a formal request. Make that responsibility clear before an urgent matter arises, and retain the documents explaining the business’s authorisation and the adviser’s role.
Agree an evidence and approval process
The quality of tax support depends on reliable information from the business. Agree which reports, invoices and contracts are needed, who provides them and when. Establish how unusual transactions and missing evidence will be escalated. The adviser should not be expected to infer material facts from a bank balance or an incomplete ledger description.
Before a submission, confirm who reviews the calculation and approves the final version. Keep the supporting workpaper and acknowledgment accessible to the taxpayer. If advice depends on an assumption, record it clearly and identify who must confirm the underlying fact.
Keep continuity throughout the relationship
Maintain a shared list of returns submitted, unresolved questions, applications and next actions. Review it regularly so that a query is not lost when an employee changes role. Ensure the taxpayer retains appropriate access and copies of its own records throughout the engagement.
At handover or termination, request the filed documents, calculations and status of every open matter. Confirm the relevant account and appointment changes through official procedures. Clear continuity protects the business’s ability to explain earlier decisions and is more valuable than unsupported claims of guaranteed refunds, superior rankings or penalty-free results.

Brief Introduction to Tax in UAE
Each member state of the GCC will establish their own separate national legislation concerning VAT and as such, the detailed compliance requirements and a set of rules will be outlined in each respective legislation. As such we outline below an overview of the expected general underlying VAT compliance requirements. An inherent feature of the VAT is the self-assessment nature, meaning every business which is VAT registered (or required to be VAT registered) must record, assess and report its VAT obligations and entitlements, in accordance with the law, to the tax authorities.
Registering for VAT
Businesses and individuals engaged in any business activity whose turnover exceeds the mandatory VAT registration threshold specified by the respective national VAT laws must register for VAT. Voluntary VAT registration will be optional where the business turnover is below the mandatory VAT registration threshold – careful consideration should be given to the potential amount of VAT reclaimed on purchases by the business as well as the compliance costs in administering and reporting the tax, before making such a decision. Businesses not registered for VAT cannot charge VAT on their sales and cannot claim any VAT incurred on their inputs.
